IWSG: Trusting Your Own Madness

We're back again this month with Insecure Writers Support Group created by  Alex J. Cavanaugh.  This month's ninja co-hosts are  co-hosts today are Sheena-kay Graham, Julie Musil,Jamie Ayres, and Mike Swift!

I'll keep this brief.  Sometimes when I'm writing, I feel like no one is ever going to get it.  I mean, I've written some pretty freaky shit in my adult, YA and children's books.  I guess my insecurities this month as I make another round of edits to my novel is that readers will never get it or me.  Or worse they'll just write me off as weird.  Which is somewhat true.  But--stay with me on this one--that's not the point!  Anyway, I found this quote from Clive Barker that somehow spoke to me this month.

I guess that's the problem with some of my stuff.  I trust my madness but then I have doubts too.
Does that make any sense?

What type of insecurities are you faced with this month?

Am I wasting my time? That's the constant insecurity in my head. I spend all this time writing but will anyone ever want to read it?

In your madness I turst!
Seriously Mina, I so get this, being a little loony myself (you know with the lightsabers and whatnot, lol). Anyway, just get it finished, write how you feel it should go, and then get a good editor and beta. And remember, weird is far better than boring. You got this Mina! ;)

Trust that others will dig your madness! Maybe that's a better way to look at it.
I think we are all just a bit mad. Some function better than others though.

There is ALWAYS a market for the mad, the strange, and the bizarre. Always!

This month, I am insecure about my WIP. It is taking forever to complete the first draft.

Slow and steady wins the race, though.

Madness is the way to be, let it flow and just be a tad crazy

Mina, from everything I've ever read on your blog, I'd have to say we have similar mad taste. And I'm sure there are TONS of people out there with the same. So no matter what you write, there's a market for it. Trust me.

And one day I very much hope I get to read it.

Hey Mina,

Freaky shit is good. Perhaps rather worryingly, you made sense to me :)

Weird is good, my friend. What's wrong with creativity. Enough will get it. Hey, I have a dog take over my blog. Weird enough for you....

Gary :)

You have to be out there to write the sort of books you do. It is a good thing and I KNOW there are people who will eat it up. With a spoon. Just keep working on your craft.

Love, love, love Clive Barker. The Damnation Game is the only book that ever gave me nightmares.

Be true to what you want to write. People will get it and some won't.

But you have to be true to yourself first!

@Sally - yes, that's exactly my worry.

@Elise - *big hug* Elise. Thank you!

@Alex - That's very true, Alex. Thanks.

@Dianne - Yes, I hadn't thought about it like that. Thanks.

@Pat - Love your rhyme. LOL. Thank you.

@SL - Ah, SL, you're the bomb. Thanks.

@Kimberly - I love that quote too. :)

@Gary - Freaky is right. LOL. & you know we must be crazy as JRT owners.

@Leanne - That's true. I think as writers it's difficult to stop the madness.

@Ron - I haven't read that one yet. It's on my list. Thanks. You're right about some will get it--others wont. Very true.
