A-Z Challenge: In a word...Change

Since blogs are so prevalent in our worlds and this is an A-Z Challenge, my "C" topic for today is about "Change."  I'm working on making changes to my blog which is why I'm veering off my character theme a bit.  Not drastic changes, but enough to enhance and make it better.
Since I have a background in marketing and have spent several focusing online, things like backlinks, userability and page rank mean something to me.  I suppose the biggest issue I'm focusing on at this time is userability: The ability to easily maneuver within a site with little limitations or road blocks to users visiting my blog.

Here are some changes I plan on making:

1st:  Layout.  Yes, I will be changing my blog layout, going from three columns to two.  Why?  Because I want more simplicity and organization for my blog.  Any minion thoughts on that?

2nd:  Advertising.  I get many requests to advertise.  I'm not a fan, but I may consider it for one reason.  I try to connect not only with writers, but readers.  And that means do giveaways several times a year that frankly cost money out of my own pocket.  To me, that's a minimal spend that I line item as a monthly expense for marketing.  I'm a giver by nature, but since this is a business, I may be adding more prominent advertising.  And thoughts on that?

3rd:  Blog Analysis.  I have a friend reviewing my site that is an SEO expert.  He's seriously good and I won't even begin to tell you the people in his Rolodex.  He's the man, and I'll have him evaluating my blog and if I can, I'll share that with you.  Have you had this done before?  Are you even interested?

What about you?  Any feedback you'd like to share about my blog.  The likes or dislikes?  All constructive feedback is welcome.

My only demand from a blog is that it be easy to load, read and comment on---and yours works just fine for me :)

Change can be challenging, but I am usually up for challenges! I work with students who do not accept change very well. I think in my line of work - special education - change is inevitable! I never have a day that is the same as another!

Hi! I'm just dropping by from the A - Z and your blog looks great to me :) Two columns might work better, purely to look less crowded, but it looks good to me anyways! I look forward to seeing the change :)

I really like your blog but I'm constantly trying different things out with my own. I've thought of going back to 2 columns. I'm forever trying to simplify it.. No solutions at the moment but I look forward to the changes you'll be making. Maybe it'll give me some idea of what to do with mine! :)

I think your page is perfectly fine. I myself, have no room to talk, I'm constantly changing m colors. I like change.

Good luck with your change and I look forward to more posts and your big change reveal!

I recently did the opposite to you - went from a two columb layout to three! I just felt like I needed more sidebar space at the TOP of my blog, rather than having things go on forever down one side.
If I had to make one suggestion for your blog (and feel free to ignore me!), the font that's used for the widget titles and blog archive isn't that easy to read. I mean, I CAN read it, but it could be a little clearer.

I like your blog. It loads easily and reads nice. I want to change mine up too, if I can ever find the time. *sigh* I want to add another sidebar which would be three columns. To me that makes it easier to read. *light bulb flash* You could do a blog post on the changes once you finish. That would help peeps like me. Thanks for the follow and comment over at my house. Returning the follow. Love your place. *waving*

Be curious what the expert says.
I get a lot of requests to advertise as well, but I always say no. It fits for some people, just not me.

Mina, I love your blog - and not complicated. I too went from a 3 column to a 2 column blog for simplicity - and in the midst of doing a new site that is more a website with my blog seamless in it. I would LOVE if you did Ads! I just did my first one on I Smell Sheep blogspot and doing great there. Oh, do share any SEO info from your guru with us minions! Happy A to Z!

I think your blog is fine. I like that it doesn't take ten years to load with my slow internet and doesn't have an overwhelming amount of flash. I am interested in seeing what you come up with. :-)

I think a 2-column layout would definitely be better, so I'd say go for it! As far as advertising, forgive me for being so blunt, but you'd be NUTS not to do that if people often ask you about it. If people are willing to pay, why not? I've paid for advertising before and will be doing it again! So yes, I think you have some great ideas to expand your blog and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. :-)

I like the overall look of your blog, the banner and color choices, but a 2 column layout may be better. What is also nice is that it loads pretty quickly. I tend to shy away from sites that take long to load (>7 seconds). And I agree with Rachael Morgan about the font on your side bars. Just my 2c. I'll be very interested in what changes you make because I have issues with my site in general.

Your reasons for adding advertising sounds good to me. I like the three column layout. I think it's cause I have this idea that things are important to me so that they must be important to other people...even though the links I have are for restaurants in SLC.

So dumb right? LOL...maybe I should go to a two column layout...

I like the look of your blog, but change can also be a good thing. The blog analysis sounds interesting. It would be great if you shared some of what he said. :)

@Damyanti - That's good to know. Thx.

@Sara - Don't I know it.

@Nikki - 2 vs. 3 seems to be the way to go. We'll see. Thx.

@MMMimi - Thx. To simplify. Yes, that's what I want.

@Danielle, Robyn & Alex - Thx. I will need to schedule a post to discuss the changes & feedback.

@Rachel & Elise - This is great feedback. It's a default font, I believe from the template, but I have to check. Thx.

@Donna - You know I totally will. Keep your fingers crossed.

@Kayla - I have it when blogs/sites take forever to load too!

@Jess - Thx. I am looking into it. Decisions. Decisions.

@Michael Offutt - LOL. Not dumb at all! For me, I questioning why all info on my sidebars like "do I really need it?"

@Michael Pierce - I will share it for sure.

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the
shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit
crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
